How do I use this pace calculator?
- Calculate pace: enter distance and finish time. A 50:00 10K works out to 5:00/km.
- Calculate finish time: enter distance and target pace. A marathon at 5:41/km is approximately four hours.
- Calculate distance: enter running time and pace. Sixty minutes at 6:00/km covers 10 kilometers.
How is running pace calculated?
Pace = time ÷ distance. The calculator first converts time to seconds, then divides by kilometers. It converts mile pace with 1 mile = 1.609344 km. Split projections assume an even average pace and do not account for elevation, weather, aid-station stops or late-race fatigue.
Frequently asked questions
What is 8:00/mile in min/km?
8:00/mile is approximately 4:58/km. Divide the seconds per mile by 1.609344 to find seconds per kilometer.
What is 5:00/km in min/mile?
5:00/km is approximately 8:03/mile. Multiply the seconds per kilometer by 1.609344, then convert back to minutes and seconds.
Why does my watch show a slightly different marathon time?
The calculator uses the official marathon distance of 42.195 km and an even pace. In practice, turns, aid stations, elevation, weather, GPS error and running beyond the measured line can all change the result.
Can I use this result as my race goal?
The unit and even-pace calculations are precise, but the tool cannot judge whether a goal suits your fitness. Use recent training and races, course profile and expected weather as well.
