Race Split & Pace-Band Planner
Race split calculation
How should I read the table?
“Segment moving pace” excludes stopped time. “Elapsed time” includes your allowance so you can check the plan at a kilometer marker or timing point. The calculator spreads stopped time proportionally across the distance; adjust for the actual aid-station layout of your race.
Common questions
How do the three pacing strategies differ?
Even pace uses the same moving pace throughout. Conservative start makes the first 20% two percent slower and recovers the time later. Negative split makes the first half 1.5 percent slower and the second half 1.5 percent faster. All three preserve the same goal finish time.
Why does my moving pace get faster when I add stopped time?
Your finish time includes time spent at aid stations, toilets, or in congestion. A larger allowance leaves less time for running, so your moving pace must be faster to reach the same finish target.
Does this guarantee my goal time?
No. This is a mathematical split plan, not a forecast of weather, hills, fitness, GPS error, or extra distance run. Set a goal supported by your training and put safety ahead of the clock.
